Cardiff’s strategy for the delivery of housing growth in the city continues to be rolled out. ‘Plas dwr’ forms a part of the North West Cardiff strategic allocation and is one of a series of large scale housing developments at various stages in the planning process in Cardiff. Soltys Brewster are providing coordinated landscape and ecology services for Bellway Homes, building on our portfolio of successful strategic housing developments which includes Junction 33 (allocated for 2,000 homes) and North East Cardiff (allocated for 4,500 homes). Working to Cardiff’s Design Code for the development, our services included the design and creation of management strategies for a series of linked Public Open Spaces, respecting the site’s ecology and a nearby listed building and contributing to the creation of a sustainable new community for Cardiff.
Following appeal of the Section 73 application, planning approval has been granted for the Mynydd Pencarreg Wind turbines scheme in Carmarthenshire. The consented scheme will see the overall tip height of two approved wind turbines increase from 100m to 125m. The original planning application was approved by Carmarthenshire County Council but the subsequent Section 73 application for the increase in tip height was refused on the grounds of potential effects on landscape and visual amenity to The Teifi Special Landscape Area and local residential amenity. Soltys Brewster provided expert landscape advice throughout the appeal process to assist in achieving a successful outcome for clients EnergieKontor UK Ltd.
Working on behalf of the Education Authority, Soltys Brewster have completed Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEA) for six key sites across the province. Existing school campuses and nearby greenfield sites have been surveyed to advise on the feasibility of either improving existing campus facilities or relocation and new build. Surveys were intended to identify ecological constraints/opportunities associated with these options and also included an initial assessment of the Land Use & Ecology Credits under BREEAM for each of the sites.
